Top food safety challenges

After analyzing data from OnBrand360 food safety assessments, Steritech identified the most common food safety challenges for Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs), Grocery Stores and Supermarkets, Convenience Stores, and Casual + Fast Casual Restaurants, as well as the top contributing factors that led to these violations. Most violations can be attributed to training gaps, labor shortages, and budget limitations.

This data was collected during the first seven months of 2023.

We collected data from nearly 25,000 food safety assessments for Casual and Fast Casual Restaurants. The largest challenge these industries face is the cleanliness of nonfood-contact surfaces and facilities.

Steritech analyzed OnBrand360® data collected from nearly 10,500 food safety assessments from convenience stores. The findings revealed that issues related to the safety of nonfood-contact surfaces and facilities are mounting in Convenience Stores.

In more than 90,000 food safety assessments conducted for QSR locations, Steritech found that most food safety challenges are connected to the cleanliness and condition of facilities and surfaces without direct contact with food.

After reviewing OnBrand360® assessments of grocery stores and supermarkets, Steritech determined that delis, bakeries, and produce departments experience nearly identical food safety challenges.
